Attend a public hearing for proposed Cross Road improvements

A number of changes have been proposed to improve Cross Road from Vincent Street to the Autumn Glen Senior Living Center and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation is holding a virtual design public hearing to collect resident feedback.

Join the transportation department on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m., where the project team will provide the public a chance to become familiar with the proposed changes in Dartmouth before collecting feedback.

The proposal includes repairing pavement and installing new curbs, sidewalks, ADA compliant ramps and crosswalks. 

There would also be closed drainage system improvements and a 10-foot side path along the western side of Cross Road would be constructed. The school zone reduced speed warning beacons would also be upgraded.

In order to complete the project, the town needs a secure right of way, which are publicly owned areas reserved for transportation purposes. An acquisition fee — a charge that would cover expenses incurred for arranging a loan or lease agreement — and permanent or temporary easements, which grant the ability to cross or use someone else’s land for a specified purpose, may be required.

Dartmouth is responsible for acquiring the necessary rights in private or public lands.

The transportation department’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented at the hearing.

All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Residents can access the hearing on the department’s website on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. If the hearing is canceled, the cancellation announcement will be posted on the same website.
