The Sippican Historical Society invites the community, history enthusiasts, and book lovers to an evening with Dr. Daphne Palmer Geanacopoulos, author of The Pirate’s Wife, on April 22, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Marion Music Hall.

Dr. Geanacopoulos researched the remarkable life of Sarah Kidd, the wife of the infamous Captain William Kidd. While Captain Kidd’s exploits as one of history’s most notorious pirates are well known, Sarah’s extraordinary story of courage, ingenuity, and resilience remains largely untold. Drawing from a wealth of original documents, Dr. Geanacopoulos brings a fresh and feminist perspective to a world often recorded through men’s eyes, revealing Sarah’s roles as wife, mother, merchant, socialite, fugitive, and survivor in 17th and 18th-century New York.

This event is free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of our members. Donations are welcome and greatly appreciated, helping SHS continue to foster interest in local history and preserve the stories that shape our community.

All are welcome! Whether you are fascinated by tales of the high seas, passionate about women’s history, or eager to engage with fellow book lovers, this evening promises insight and inspiration. Following the presentation, Dr. Geanacopoulos will be available to sign copies of her book. For more information, go sippicanhistoricalsociety.org.
