If you’ve never experienced an NBSO concert, this is your invitation to feel what you’ve been missing. Step away from the everyday and let yourself be swept up in the pull of fate, the thrill of the unexpected, and the sheer force of sound. As suspense gives way to exhilaration, you may find yourself more than recharged; you’ll feel fully alive.

COME EARLY FOR THE FULL EXPERIENCE

Make the most of your evening by arriving early to check out the pre-concert activities and settle into the rhythm of the night.

Here is our recommended itinerary for a night out to remember:

Grab an early dinner downtown. Try Candela for Italian, National Club for Mexican, or The Black Whale for seafood.

6:00 PM: Arrive at the Z and head down to the Speakeasy for music by the Buttonwood Brass jazz quartet (be sure to register first)

6:30 PM: It's time to go up to the concert hall for the chat with our charismatic conductor Yaniv and guest artist Sydney Lee. Learning a bit about the evening's music will definitely enhance your listening experience. (You can take your beverage with you.)

7:00 PM: Take an elevator ride up to the Movement Studio for a quick session of chair yoga with a Sangha Yoga New Bedford instructor. This calming reset will help you slow down, ground yourself, and open your senses before the music begins. 

7:15 PM: Grab a beverage at the lobby bar and head to your seat for a mind-blowing treat!

Marking his 10th season with the NBSO, Yaniv returns to his audition piece that got him the job—Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. Opening with the “fate” motif, the eternal ballet composer’s most original symphony consists of numerous surprises, like an entire movement of just string plucking, cymbals and bass drum only in the last movement (making so much noise) and an unhinged piccolo solo, to name just a few. Sydney Lee returns to the NBSO to perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, the Mount Everest of the cello repertoire. We open our season with Revueltas’ stirring Sensemayá, or as Yaniv likes to call it: “the Latin version of The Rite of Spring in seven minutes.”

While there’s never a dress code at the NBSO, sometimes it’s fun to make a night at the Symphony feel like an occasion. Come on your own or bring a friend, and wear something that makes you feel fabulous. Gather in the lounge before the concert to mingle, take photos, and meet others who enjoy dressing up!
