Gleason Family YMCA Launches Recycled Prom Dress Drive

Recycled Prom Dress Drive Give your dress a second chance to shine at prom!

The Gleason Family YMCA is proud to announce a Recycled Prom Dress Drive, aimed at helping local students attend prom with confidence and dignity, without the financial burden often associated with the event.

Now through the end of February, the Gleason Family YMCA is accepting gently used prom dresses from the last five years, in all sizes, along with prom accessories such as shoes, jewelry, handbags, and wraps. All donated items will be provided at no cost to students who are unable to afford the expense of prom.

This initiative is a collaboration with Walt’s Mobile Closet, a community organization dedicated to making clothing accessible to those in need. Donations may be dropped off at either location:

  • Gleason Family YMCA, 33 Charge Pond Rd., Wareham

  • Walt’s Consignment Shop at the Kilburn Mill, New Bedford

“Prom is a milestone moment for so many students, but the cost can be a real barrier,” said a representative from the Gleason Family YMCA. “Through this partnership with Walt’s Mobile Closet, we’re able to recycle beautiful dresses, reduce waste, and ensure more students can enjoy this special experience.”

All donated prom style dresses will be carefully sorted and prepared for distribution to eligible students through a referral-based process later this spring.

Community members are encouraged to clean out their closets and give prom style dresses a second life—helping to make prom memorable and inclusive for all.
