Smith Mills Preschool and Kindergarten Visits Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 Fire Station

May 16, 2019

On Wednesday, May 15, the children from Smith Mills Preschool and Kindergarten took a field trip to the Dartmouth Fire District 3 fire station on Cross Road. The firefighters taught the children the ABC’s of fire prevention, how to crawl like an alligator under the smoke to a safe meeting place, and assisted the children in using water from a fire hose to knock down “fire” targets.  The children sat in the fire trucks and in an ambulance. They were very excited to sit in the actual seats the firefighters sit in on the way to a call. They were able to see the breathing apparatus, radios, and many other pieces of equipment. The children asked lots of questions and the firefighters explained everything in a way the children could understand. The field trip ended with a demonstration of the ladder truck and a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog.  One child even described it as “the best field trip ever”.
