The SS Larchmont Remembered

Join the Friends of the Dartmouth Libraries on Saturday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. to hear Daniel Harrington discuss the long-forgotten sinking of the SS Larchmont off Watch Hill in February 1907. In gale-force winds, 20-foot waves and frigid temperatures, the steamship collided with the schooner Harry Knowlton three miles offshore.  Passengers and crew had little chance of survival in the brutal conditions. Mr. Harrington’s presentation covers the story of the ship, its crew, the passengers, and the unbelievable stories of survival, panic, murder and miracles, using digitally restored photos and eyewitness accounts.  The presentation will be held at Dartmouth North Branch Library.

Daniel Harrington is a director of the Rhode Island Heritage Hall of Fame and a popular monthly columnist for the Providence Journal. A former East Providence City Councilman and founder of Chartwell Wealth Management in Rumford, he now works as a Securities Principal for MassMutual. He lives in historic Pawtuxet Village along with his wife, Kristine, and two daughters.

Mr. Harrington’s presentation will be held at Dartmouth North Branch Library, an accessible facility, which is located at 211 Cross Road, Dartmouth.  For more information, please e-mail fodl.libraries@gmail.com.
