9 Sports leagues to sign your kids up for this Fall
Soccer:
It’s not too late to register your six- to 14-year olds for fall soccer through the Dartmouth Youth Soccer Association (DYSA). The 2016 Vipers Academy fall session is accepting signups through August 29. The Monday night practices are held August 29 through October 24 at Normandin Middle School (81 Felton Street, New Bedford). The base cost for boys and girls is $65.
Registration for DYSA fall recreational boys and girls soccer is open until September 7. The base cost for the U6, U8, U10, U12, and U15 leagues is $90, but a $25 late fee is included for registrations after July 25. Visit dysasoccer.com for more informtation.
Introduce your young ones to soccer in a non-competitive environment through the YMCA’s Munchkin Soccer. YMCA sessions run September 6-October 30. Members pay $68; general public, $134. Visit ymcasouthcoast.org for more information.
Baseball:
The Dartmouth Youth Activities Association (DYAA) is accepting registration for the fall baseball season. Head to Crapo Field on either Thursday, August 18 or Sunday, August 21 at 6 p.m. to register your kids (aged 16 and under). The registration fee for the six-week program is $65, and non-refundable. Sports Mix:
Introduce your child to a new sport every two weeks with the Dartmouth YMCA’s Sports Mix and Itty Bitty Sports programs. These programs develop social skills—such as teamwork and sportsmanship—as well as develop coordination. The Saturday sessions cost $28 for members, and $42 for the general public. Karate:
The Dartmouth YMCA is hosting youth karate for ages 4-12. The program teaches self-defense, physical fitness, flexibility, and self-confidence. Prices range $64-215. Call (508) 993-3361 for more information or visit ymcasouthcoast.org.
Swim:
The Duxbury-based South Shore Diving Club has teamed up with University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Aquatics to offer competitive youth springboard diving at the Tripp Athletic Center Natatorium. South Shore Diving trains athletes ages 6-19, but athletes must first pass an evaluation. The Tuesday/Thursday practice schedule starts on September 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Interested athletes can go to southshorediving.com for more details.
Don’t have a competitive swimmer in the family? Check out the YMCA for slower-paced instruction. Classes range from introductory classes for parents and infants (6-12 months) to swim conditioning for ages 15 and older. Pricing varies. Check out the 2016 Fall program guide for more information.
