Allens pond to host weekly volunteer days
Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary will host volunteer “Trail Blazer” days every Friday, from 9 a.m.–12 p.m., starting on February 10.
On our first day, volunteers will meet at the Field Station, located at 1280 Horseneck Road, and start forging what will become the sanctuary's newest trail. The new trail will be the backbone to Allens Pond, connecting all three of the trail systems into a nine-mile round trip hike.
Trail Blazer days are open to everyone; no experience of any kind is necessary. Staff will provide tools, training, and materials needed for the variety of tasks. Future projects include trail maintenance, boardwalk construction, removing invasive plants, burning brush piles, and planting native plants.
Volunteers will gain new skills, connect with neighbors, and connect with nature.
