Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary to host 13th annual Duck Derby

Aug 3, 2016

Mass Audubon’s Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary is celebrating its 13th annual Duck Derby with a sales promotion and duck adoption. The sales promotion is simple: on August 13, purchase a “Box of Lucky 13 Quackers” for $100 and you’ll receive a “Flock of Five Feisty Racers” for free.

Ducks are on sale through 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 13. Adopt your ducks online at www.massaudubon.org or by phone by calling 508-636-2437.

The duck race will commence at approximately 2:15 p.m.  The adopted ducks will “paddle” on the incoming tide from Buzzards Bay into Allens Pond. The first yellow rubber duckie to cross the finish line wins the grand prize—dinner for two anywhere in the world, which includes airfare and two nights of lodging.

The post-race festivities will take place on Sunday, August 14, on the grounds near the field station at the sanctuary from 11-2 p.m. The sanctuary is located at 1280 Horseneck Road in Westport—right where Dartmouth meets Westport along Buzzards Bay. The event will include a $5 barbecue lunch, games and crafts for kids, educational exhibits, live music, a video replay of the race, a silent auction, and live plant auction. This event is free and open to the public.

As the grand prize and all other prizes are sponsored and/or donated, all derby proceeds will be used to support programs at Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary.

The festival, silent auction, live plant auction, and winner’s announcements are on Sunday, August 14, from 11-2 p.m. at the This event is free and open to the public.
