Antone Martin, Jr., 91
Antone Martin, Jr., age 91, of Dartmouth, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the loving husband of Kathleen A. (Openshaw) Martin, with whom he would have shared 70 years of marriage on January 4.
Born in Dartmouth and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Antone and Mary (Concellum) Martin. He received an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Bristol Community College.
Tony, as he liked to be called, served proudly as an officer with the Dartmouth Police Department for 33 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant by the time of his retirement.
Kathleen, as he always referred to her, was the love of his life. He was never very far from his beloved Kathleen. They found great joy in simple things and in their time together. Many of their days ended in a game of gin rummy, or sitting on the back porch watching the sun set.
Tony was a talented handyman who had unique skills in repairing just about anything for family and friends, of which he was very proud. When in need of a part, he would dig into his garage or many times take a ride to the "shop,” always coming up with something.
He enjoyed fishing, tinkering around his home, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and loved his 1972 John Deere tractor. Tony was a devoted family man who loved being with and caring for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need of assistance.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Larry Martin and wife Mabel, Ken Martin and wife Angela, and Mike Martin and wife Sue; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on January 3 at 9 a.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, followed by burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 p.m.
