Arlene F. (Beard) Gouveia, 75, of Dartmouth passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020 surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Gouveia for exactly 56 years as they were married on the Fourth of July.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Clarence and Florida (Charette) Beard, Arlene graduated from Dartmouth High School and lived most of her life in Dartmouth. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Dartmouth.

Arlene and her husband owned and operated The Hair Center on Dartmouth Street. Her hobbies were knitting, painting, and reading. She enjoyed traveling with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Arlene will be remembered by all as a warm, kind-hearted and caring individual.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Kenneth Gouveia, Jr. and his wife Josselyn of Dartmouth and Kevin Gouveia of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Kelly Tavares and her husband Tyler, Ryan Gouveia, and Justin Gouveia; a sister, Sheila Delano; and two nephews, Joel and Thomas, all of Dartmouth.

Her funeral will be Thursday, July 9, 2020 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 789 Dartmouth St. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be Wednesday, July 8, 2020 from 5-8 p.m.
