Audrey L. (Duce) Brooks, 90, passed away following a brief illness, with her family by her side, on Friday, August 11, 2023. She was the wife of the late John C. Brooks with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Audrey was born in Nantucket, MA, a daughter of the late Waldemar and Yvonne (Marchessault) Duce. Having first met her husband on the island, they later married and settled in Dartmouth where they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives together.

Audrey graduated from Holy Family High School and continued her education at Framingham State College. She gave sewing lessons at the Star Store in New Bedford before dedicating over 40 years as a beloved substitute teacher in the Dartmouth school system. She volunteered countless hours at St. Julie Billiart Parish where she was a communicant since its inception.

Audrey was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her six children, Robert Brooks and his wife Janet of Apollo Beach, FL, Brenda de Silva and her husband Norman, Bruce Brooks and his wife Heidi, Bridget Larrabee and her husband William, and Beth Arguin and her husband Michael, all of Dartmouth, and Bonnie Lema and her husband Jeffrey of Nantucket; a brother, Thomas Duce and his wife Sue of Bourne, a sister, Marilyn Cummings of Chicago, and her sister-in-law, Eleanor Brooks; grandchildren, Libby, Lindsey and Geoffrey Brooks, Norman de Silva, Erica Stevens, Kelsey, Madison and Colby Brooks, Christopher Welch, Logan and Cullen Larrabee, Abby and Cameron Arguin; great grandchildren, Kaliana and Kennedi Whitfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Patricia Taves.

Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. Julie Billiart Parish, 494 Slocum Road, Dartmouth followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
