Author and friend of Anne Frank’s father to speak at UMass Dartmouth May 21

May 9, 2023

Ryan Cooper — a friend and correspondent of Anne Frank’s father, Otto Frank — will speak at UMass Dartmouth’s annual meeting of Claire T. Carney Library Associates on Sunday, May 21, at 2 p.m.

The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the UMass Dartmouth Marketplace (the former campus cafeteria, across from the Campus Center.) Parking is available in lot 5.

Cooper struck up a correspondence with Frank in the midst of a period of self-discovery while living in California during his 20s.

Over the years, the two became friends and Cooper was inspired by Otto Frank’s optimism in the face of hardship. Their friendship continued through letters and several visits until Otto Frank’s death in 1980.

In February 2021, Cooper published a book titled “We Never Said Goodbye,’’ featuring some of his letters and memories of Otto Frank.

A question-and-answer session, book signing and refreshments will be held after the presentation.
