Barbara A. Coonan, 84, of South Dartmouth passed away on Saturday August 20, 2016. Daughter of the late William A. J. and Helen (Fahey) Coonan and sister of the late Maureen C. Allen, Barbara leaves a legacy of education. A graduate of Holy Family High, Class of 1949 and Seton Hill College, Class of 1953, now Seton Hill University, she taught at various schools throughout the New Bedford and Massachusetts area, her last school position being a counselor at Dartmouth Middle School from 1978 - 1994.

Barbara was one of the original members of the Board of Trustees at Hidden Bay Condominiums, co-managing and remaining active throughout her residence. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, traveling to many places around the world with her friends, and having lunch with her close friends.

She is survived by her two nieces, Paula J. Poli of Providence, RI and Andree Allen of Houston, TX, as well as two grandnieces, Kathryn Poli Manchester and Elizabeth Poli-Levesque. She was also the great-great aunt to Cameron and Melina Manchester.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday August 29, 2016 at 10 AM at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
