Barber named permanent public works director

Aug 23, 2022

Public Works Director Tim Barber can now drop the term “interim” from his title.

On Aug. 22 the Select Board unanimously voted to have Barber permanently lead the department after nearly two years at the helm.

“It’s [been] a long time coming,” Vice Chair Stanley Mickelson said.

Barber has served in an interim capacity since the department’s previous director, Dave Hickox, retired at the beginning of 2021. During his tenure, Barber has overseen cleanups following nor’easters and blizzards, along with improving the quality of the town’s water supply.

Officials also praised him for his dedication to the town, noting that Barber would regularly address their questions at public meetings even while on vacation.

“[That] tells me where the DPW is going,” Select Board Member Shawn McDonald said at a previous meeting. “I think we have the right person for the right job at the right time.”
