Feb 18, 2020

Bishop Stang High School announced on Friday that it has hired alumna Alexandria Andrade, Class of 2009 for the position of Head Softball Coach.

Andrade played softball, basketball, and track and field as a Bishop Stang student from 2005 through 2009. While at Stang, she was also a member of the Sr. Teresa Trayers, SND Chapter of the National Honor Society.

She went on to Elmira College, where she was a two time softball team captain. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elmira in 2013, with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Speech and Language Disabilities.

Andrade earned a Master of Arts in Applied Behavior Analysis from Caldwell University in 2015. She is currently employed at Behavioral Connections, where she is a board certified behavioral analyst, coordinating programming for children on the autism spectrum.

Bishop Stang Athletic Director Dennis Golden remarked, “Alex has played in our program and takes tremendous pride in it. She wants our young people to experience the same successes and share in the pride that she has in the program. Alex arrives with extensive playing and coaching experience. She is ready to help our players in all areas of the game; hitting, base running, fielding, throwing, and pitching. One of Alex’s greatest strengths is developing trust with her players, and they want to do their best with her and for her.”

Andrade has a young son with husband Danny Tripp. She has enjoyed coaching in and around New Bedford since her teenage years, including her work with teams from the Bay State Girls Softball league for the past fifteen years.

She has said that she is excited to work with the Bishop Stang High School program, and sees skill development as a primary focus for the program. She wants the girls to ultimately help one another in practice and in game situations.

Andrade said, “I am excited for the opportunity and privilege to give back to my alma mater, and to coach at the high school level. I look forward to working with each player, and having each one make progress individually and as a team. Being able to coach at this level has always been a goal of mine, and to be able to do it at the place that has made me the person I am today is an absolute honor. Through guidance, faith and support, I look forward to assisting team members to be the best players and individuals they can be.”
