Boston Celtics' Avery Bradley to host camps at Burgo Basketball

Jul 2, 2015

When Avery Bradley of the Boston Celtics came down to Dartmouth last year to host one of two clinics at the Burgo Basketball Association, there was a young player that traveled all the way from Philadelphia to partake in the camp.

Bradley didn’t disappoint.

“He spent an hour with him,” said Burgo Basketball Association founder and director Steve Burgo of Bradley, who will return on July 7, 8 and 9 and 14, 15 and 16 for two more camps at the complex.

“He’s a 32-million-dollar athlete, but he’s a normal person. Nothing changes,” he added.

Initially, Celtic legend Nate “Tiny” Archibald was expected to join Bradley in Dartmouth, but will be unable to do so because he’s in Cape Verde coaching there. Burgo said the hope is to get one of two other Celtics — either Jared Sullinger or Isaiah Thomas — to join Bradley.

“We’re doing as much as we can to get them down here,” said Burgo.

Also joining Bradley and Burgo will be several coaches from all over the area.

“There will be some top-notch instructors,” said Burgo. “There’s a lot of experience.”

Burgo said he’s confident that this year’s programs will be a repeat performance of last year’s, with Bradley’s “down to earth” presence serving as the basis for the camp’s success.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Burgo. “He’s outstanding with the kids.”

Registration for the camps is now open for students grades 3 through 12. The cost is $150 per session or $250 for both.
