Car fire shuts down Tucker Road

Dec 5, 2017

A morning car fire left Tucker Road closed for just under an hour on December 5 during the morning commute.

According to Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 Chief Brad Ellis, the department received the report of a car on fire at 7:28 a.m. on Tucker Road near Fairway Drive.

When fire crews arrived, they discovered the fire had fully engulfed a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Crews were able to put the fire out within a matter of minutes, Ellis said.

The driver of the Jeep was the only person in the car at the time, and she was not injured, Ellis said. She had been driving down Tucker Road when she pulled over. A passing motorist notified her of the fire, which began in the rear of the vehicle, and she was able to escape unharmed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Ellis said.

The road remained closed for about an hour, and re-opened to traffic at about 8 a.m.
