Cask and Pig to bring a gastropub to Dartmouth

Oct 4, 2016

Focusing on craft beer and quality food, the Cask and Pig will open this winter at 780 State Road.

Chefs Joe Rego and Mario Ribeiro told the Select Board on Monday that their goal is to create a place for families, sports fans and all to gather to enjoy good food – along with a wide selection of local craft beers based on the "gastropub" philosophy. The restaurant will also help support local farmers.

The two chefs have years of experience in growing restaurants. Ribeiro is the owner of the Pasta House in Fairhaven, and Rego is a New Bedford-based chef who has appeared in a number of cooking shows, including Food Network’s "Cutthroat Kitchen."

The Select Board OK'd the necessary liquor and operating licenses for the restaurant. With the licenses approved, Rego said the current plan is to have the restaurant opened sometime between January and February, but ideally in early January.

The Cask and Pig will be located at the site of the former Trio restaurant.

The board voted 4-1 to approve a request by Verizon Wireless to add a new cellular antenna to the top of a pole located at 350 State Road.

Verizon representatives said that they had identified a gap in coverage in that area, and that the new antenna would provide cellular coverage for about an eighth of a mile surrounding the location.

Town Administrator David Cressman said the antenna would be installed four feet on top of a 39-foot pole. The device itself is four feet tall, according to Verizon representatives.
