This year marks the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day.

To commemorate the milestone, the newly launched Dartmouth Tree Committee, in partnership with The Dartmouth YMCA from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Dartmouth Y on Gulf Road on Friday, April 22.

During the celebration, a white oak sampling will be planted on the property. The tree has the potential to grow more than 100 feet tall, sequester large amounts of carbon, reduce erosion of precious topsoil, provide shade in summer, clean the air, and provide habitat for small and large animals.

Attendees can also learn a brief history of Arbor Day, hear poems, look at kids’ art, and get cookies.

Fifty oak seedlings will be given away, along with planting instructions.
