'Changes in Latitude' to headline annual 'Concert on the Green'

Jul 8, 2015

The Parrotheads will soon converge on UMass Dartmouth in the name of charity.

Since 2002, the Dartmouth Police Relief Association has held the “Concerts on the Green” in place of the former Policeman’s Ball in an effort to raise funds to benefit the community. That includes scholarships for students, money for youth organizations such as the Dartmouth Youth Athletic Association, Pop Warner Football, and the Dartmouth Youth Commission, according to Officer Richard Medeiros.

Performing at the concert will be “Changes in Latitude,” a Jimmy Buffet tribute band that plays cruise ships, at Disney World, and several bigger shows in the area. There will also be a classic car run that’s open to the public.

There will also be a “Dunk-a-Cop” event and face-painting for the children (and youthful adults).

“It’s supposed to be a really good band this year,” said Medeiros, noting that admission for entering classic cars is free. “Everybody will be able to view the cars. We normally get about 150 from all over the area.”

Medeiros said the Police Relief Organization benefits police officers as well, but their primary goal is to provide the scholarships and support other community endeavors.

“It sponsors the Boy Scouts at their annual outing, we hold fishing derbies — it benefits officers and the community as well.”

Tickets for the show, which will be held at the UMass Dartmouth amphitheater on July 25 at are available at http://dpaldpra.org/concert%202015.html or at the front gate of the show. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and other food and drinks will be available. DJ Gene Daniels will also be performing. Daniels goes on at 5 p.m., with Changes in Latitude to perform at 6. Gates open at 4 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.
