Charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle that was located unoccupied and engulfed in flames early Wednesday, April 12 on the New Bedford Country Club golf course on Route 6.

The female driver was later located at a local motel. Her name and the specific charges were not immediately available.

Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 6 near the country club at about 4:30 a.m. When they arrived, officers found a 2015 Nissan Altima on fire.

No one was found in the vehicle, which was registered to a person from Tiverton, R.I.

A Dartmouth Police K-9 unit and drone were used to check the area, but nothing was immediately located. Officer Andrew Fredette later located the driver.

The vehicle had severed a utility pole before crashing into the golf course. This resulted in low-hanging wires on Route 6 between Slocum and Hathaway roads. Those roads were subsequently closed to traffic.
