Children's Circle celebrates Valentine's Day with love, yoga
Most people don't celebrate Valentine's Day with yoga and song – but don't tell that to the kids at Children's Circle Nursery School.
From "the polar bear" to "the whale," students demonstrated various yoga positions to their parents as part of a holiday performance on Feb. 12. The yoga class was followed by a musical performance centered around love and friendship.
“We sing a lot of songs during the holidays,” said Director Scarlett Lintner. “We also make a lot of crafts and exchange valentines.”
Each of the 10 students present brought cupcakes and various other treats to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
The nursery school is located in the back of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth and was formed in the early 1970s by the church’s women’s guild. The school hosts several performances throughout the school year for parents, often with a literary theme set to song.
After the yoga demonstration, told as an “Arctic Story,” which displayed numerous arctic animal positions, the students gathered to sing songs such as “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” and “This Heart, These Hands.”
“The students spent about a month practicing,” said teacher Jen Sullivan. “We would sing the songs during circle time.”
“It was a really cute performance,” said parent Ian Mello. “My child was practicing in the car on the way here.”
This spring, Children’s Circle students will be branching out from their musical performances with an art exhibition at Gallery X in New Bedford.
