Council on Aging announces April events

The Dartmouth Council on Aging has released their events schedule for the month of April.

The Strength and Flex exercise class is Mondays and Wednesdays,  9:15-10:15 a.m. A $75 six week Parkinson’s Yoga session begins April 18 and will be Wednesdays, 3:15-Advance registration is required.

The $5 New Drums Alive fitness class will be Thursdays at 1 p.m. beginning March 15.

Indoor 15-minute mile walk classes with Marcia will continue on Mondays at 2:30 p.m. It costs $4.

A dental clinic will be on May 1. Call Holly at (774) 766-7238 to register. An informational session on health plan options for people with Medicare is on April 26 at 1 p.m.

A walk-in blood pressure clinic is on the first and third Friday at 9 a.m. A diabetic shoe clinic will be held April 12 at 11 a.m. and walk-ins are welcomed. A “Relax with Ava" therapy dog event is every Tuesday except the last one, 10-10:30 a.m.

A reverse mortgage presentation will be held April 14 at 12:30. Reservations are required. A law presentation by Justice Bridge and legal assistance is on April 23 at 11 a.m. The fee is based on income.

A May 8 legal consultation with Suprenant and Beneski is from 10-11 a.m. and pre-registration is required. South Coastal Counties legal clinic will be on May 14 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and pre-registration is required.

The iPad and iPhone class is on April 25, 2-3 p.m. It is a six week class and costs $30. Pre-registration is needed.

An AARP Safe Driver course is on April 25, 10-3 p.m. Participants must sign up and it’s $15 for AARP members and $20 for the public.

Every other Wednesdays there will be a historical family research workshop at 10 a.m. and walk-ins are welcomed.

The movie “I Tonya” will be shown again on April 13 at 12:15 p.m. Free popcorn and transportation is provided.

The “County Three Band” performs on the first and third Wednesday, 12:30-2:30.

A poetry circle is every first Wednesday of the month at 2 p.m. or the book club every second monday at 1 p.m. The April book is “Secrets of Eden” by Chris Bohjadian. There is also a Express your Essence with Fabric event on April 11 and 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sing up is required and a light lunch is served.

The center will again be hosting Memory Cafe Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It is a place for people with alzheimer’s or dementia and their caretakers to go. On April 5 Manifest Boards will be there and on April 19 David Bates will perform songs and tell stories. People are asked to make a reservation.

As usual the Veteran’s Corner will hold its monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. It will include a conversation and continental breakfast served by Roy Oliviera, the veterans agent. The program is free to everyone.

Lastly, the center will have it volunteer luncheon on April 27 at 12:30 p.m. It is by invitation only.
