Dartmouth budget director finalist for top Westport post

Jul 23, 2021

Gregory Barnes, the director of budget and finance and treasurer for Dartmouth, is one of three finalists for the town administrator position in Westport.

The finalists were presented to the Westport Select Board at its July 19 meeting by Bernard Lynch, principal of Community Paradigm Associates. The firm worked with the Town Administrator Search Committee to narrow the selection from 27 candidates to three finalists.

The candidate eventually selected by the Select Board will replace Timothy King, who is retiring.

Barnes has held his Dartmouth position for about 11 years, Lynch said. Before that, he was the town administrator for Swansea and Townsend for approximately 10 years.

He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College.

Barnes is a native of Westport, Lynch said, and is “knowledgeable about the town.’’

The other two finalists are: Englewood, New Jersey City Administrator Sonia Alves-Viveiros and Westport Town Planner/Assistant Town Administrator James Hartnett.
