Dartmouth down to 2 intersections on 'Most Dangerous' list

Jun 23, 2015

Dartmouth only has two intersections left on the area’s most dangerous list.

According to Planning Board Clerk Lorri-Ann Miller, the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development (SRPEDD) will soon release its “Most Dangerous Crash Locations” list for 27 cities and towns in Southeastern Massachusetts, with Dartmouth making up only two of the locations on the list. She said she wasn’t exactly sure which locations they were, though she believed it was the intersections of Route 6 and Slocum Road and Route 6 and Hathaway Road.

“We’re down to two,” she said. “At one point, we had maybe 10 (on the list).”

The last list, which was released in 2008, had the Slocum Road intersection as the 23rd most dangerous in the area, with a total of 39 crashes between 2006 and 2008. The Hathaway Road intersection had 37 total crashes in that timeframe and was the 41st most dangerous in the area.

Lisa Pedro of SRPEDD said that the list is still in draft form and has yet to be released do to ongoing work at some of the intersections, but she expects it to be released some time in the near future.

Six total intersections in Dartmouth were on 2008 list, with Route 6 and Reed Road, Faunce Corner and Cross Road, Allen Street and Slocum Road, Route 6 and Tucker Road also on it.

“Work was done to improve them,” said Miller. “The lights were changed, and the accident numbers were down.”

Dartmouth Week will provide an update on the report as more information becomes available.
