Dozens gathered to celebrate Older Americans Month with a Friends of the Elderly breakfast on Tuesday, May 28. 

Several state and town officials made remarks recognizing and honoring seniors, including Rep. Christopher Markey, who highlighted the great wisdom of the older generations. 

“I think of the wisdom that comes from all of you — from your life experiences,” he said, adding how they didn’t need to be top of their class or attend an Ivy League to obtain their wisdom.

“The wisdom of you is the way you live your life every day,” Markey said. “It is an obligation of you now in your life to provide that wisdom to us — to your grandchildren and even to your great grandchildren.”

He added, “Just because you are older does not mean that you cannot provide the next generation with something of deep, deep incredible value.”

The Friends received several proclamations for their work in honor of the month.
