Dartmouth High defeats New Bedford Voc-Tech
The Dartmouth High Indians (2-1) dominated tonight's football game from start to finish, demolishing Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School (1-2), 41-7.
Dartmouth didn't pull any punches throughout the entire game.
The Indians' wide receiver, Matt Craig, scored their first touchdown not long into the first quarter after a 45-yard run. The Indians didn't let their momentum falter as they steadily forced New Bedford back until running back Chris Martin broke away halfway through the second quarter to score a touchdown, bringing the score to 14-0.
Five minutes later, Dartmouth solidified their already comfortable lead with a third touchdown by quarterback Cole Jacobsen.
Things stagnated for a bit when, with just 30 seconds on the clock, Craig intercepted the ball mere yards from the Indians' touchdown zone. On the next play, the Indians made a remarkable 45-yard gain.
However, Dartmouth was unable to score before the end of the first half, leaving the score at 21-0.
After halftime, Dartmouth came back just as strong as the first half. Martin scored his next touch down bringing the score to 28-0.
After New Bedford regained possession of the ball, Dartmouth made an astounding interception and Martin made another touchdown. The referee called a foul, and the touchdown was discounted.
They were moved back to the 15 yard line for their first down. Fans weren't too disappointed, however, because Martin immediately scored another touchdown, bringing the score to 34-0.
Just seconds before the clock ran out, New Bedford scored a touchdown. The score was 34-7 at the top of the fourth quarter.
Most of the final quarter was touch and go. Late into the quarter, Dartmouth's fan section rallied, chanting "I believe that we will win" while throwing powder in the air. On the next play, Dartmouth running back Ben Aaronson scored the final touchdown of the game.
The final score was a whopping 41-7.
Dartmouth High’s Athletic Director Jeff Caron, front and center for the game, was very proud of the team’s performance. It was exciting to get to watch such a close rivalry game after a few years of not facing New Bedford Voc-Tech.
“They’re a young team,” said Caron. “Things are looking up.”
