Dartmouth High hockey advances in holiday tournament

Dec 23, 2016

Dartmouth High’s hockey team continues its winning streak after taking the first round of the New Bedford Christmas tournament on December 22.

It was Dartmouth’s game early on, following Scott Shorrock’s goal within the first three minutes of face-off, with assists from Michael Cassara and Nate Serpa. Dartmouth lead the first period 2-0 after Max Andrade scored with less than a second remaining.

Andrade scored again in the second period, and the Indians picked up two more goals before game’s end. However, the Indians lost the opportunity for a shutout when the Bears scored with 4 minutes, 41 seconds remaining on the clock.

The win brings the Indians’ record to 3-1, after opening the season with a 2-0 loss to Rockland, and wins against Cape Cod Regional Tech and Bourne.

While head coach Michael Cappello was happy to add another win to the books, he did notice several areas for improvement.

“We didn’t execute as well as we would have liked to, and we didn’t really transition as good as I would have liked to see,” Cappello said. “It’s a couple of areas that are very typical in the beginning of the season to see you need to pick up.”

Cappello said this early in the season, he’s still building chemistry and trying different string combinations to build the strongest team.

“We have a tough schedule, so if we want to be competitive, we have to get better,” Cappello said.

The Indians take to the ice next on December 28 against Somerset Berkley, and will open the new year with back-to-back league matchups against Barnstable and Bridgewater-Raynham.
