Dartmouth High School staff hold talent show fundraiser
Dartmouth High School teachers took a break from the books and took part in lip sync battles, sports tricks, and stunts at the school’s faculty talent show.
The big winners of the March 16 talent show were tennis coaches Steven Charest and Donald York, who dazzled the audience with tricks including hitting tennis balls into containers and trash cans. The win came as a surprise to both.
“Yes, I thought Will [Higgins] and his son were better,” York said. “Everyone was good and it’s good to raise money for a charity.”
Proceeds from the event, including a National Honor Society-hosted bake sale and raffles, were donated to Love146. The non-profit raises awareness for child trafficking and helps victims.
Several acts were musical-themed. Science teacher Scott Boudria showed off his guitar skills with the assistance of another faculty member and a student.
Staff from the English and history departments competed in a lip sync battle, a teacher performed St. Patrick’s Day songs, and Will Higgins and his son performed on the drums.
After a few tense moments, science teacher Sam Brodsky emerged unharmed after he laid on a bed of nails and had a bock broken over his stomach using a sledgehammer.
Arlyn Bottcher hosted a cookie baking how-to segment, but had to improvise as she did not have access to a real oven during her segment. Judges chowed down on cookies she made in advance.
Students Sarah Waltz and Katherine Rosen named Bottcher as their favorite performer.
“It’s a really great show," Rosen said. “Mrs. Bottcher’s cooking skills were phenomenal.”
Principal Ross Thibault was one of four judges, and said it was hard to pick a winner.
“It’s always hard because anyone who puts themselves out there like that on the stage I think deserve a lot of credit for that,” Thibault said. “I think that there was a lot of talent on this stage, so it was just very difficult.”
The total amount of money raised is still being calculated.
