Dartmouth man arrested after chase through woods

A Dartmouth police officer chased down a wanted Dartmouth man on foot in the woods off Reed Road on Thursday afternoon.

According to police, Officer Christopher Flechsig saw Reed Road resident Cameron Bessette, 20, driving a motorcycle towards him while he was working a road construction detail in the 900 block of Reed Road.

Bessette was wanted by the police in relation to a drug offense.

After the officer stopped him, Bessette left his motorcycle and fled into the woods.

Officer Flechsig gave chase on foot and arrested Bessette shortly thereafter.

Police stated that during the chase, a private citizen was injured when he fell onto a large tree branch while attempting to help the officer.

He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with a serious cut to the face.

Along with the warrant, Bessette is charged with resisting arrest, multiple motor vehicle charges, and possession of a class D substance.
