Dartmouth man sentenced to prison in child pornography case

A South Dartmouth man will spend the next 63 months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to receiving and possessing child pornography.

At 29-year-old Jack L. Bean, Jr.'s sentencing hearing on May 31 in federal court in Boston, U.S. District Court Judge Dennis Saylor IV also imposed five years of supervised release in addition to the prison sentence.

Bean had pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography in February, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

A case against Bean began in September 2015, when a law enforcement investigation identified an online child pornography website with over 1,500 users who used the site to share and engage in discussions involving the sexual exploitation of minors. Officials identified Bean as one of the site's users. A search of Bean's laptop revealed 40 images and 29 videos of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Bean was arrested on April 28, 2016. Bean admitted he had downloaded and saved child pornography using the Internet.
