Dartmouth nurse wins $1 million in Mega Millions drawing

Oct 24, 2018

Dartmouth resident Jennifer Santo is $1 million richer, as she was one of two people to claim the no. 2 prize in the Mega Millions lottery.

The nurse matched the first five numbers in the Mega Millions drawing Tuesday night — just one number off from the $1.537 billion jackpot.

Santo, joined by her husband Manuel, claimed the prize at lottery headquarters in Braintree on October 24. She opted to receive a one-time payment of $1 million, minus tax withholdings.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Cumberland Farms on Main Street in Bridgewater. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of the ticket.

Santo had recently celebrated her 40th birthday, and plans to invest her winnings in the education of the couple’s two children.

Santo is one of two Massachusetts residents who claimed $1 million prizes. A second winning ticket was sold at Willington Nouria in Wilmington. The ticket has yet to be claimed.

The $1.537 billion jackpot was sold in South Carolina. A winner has not yet stepped forward.
