Dartmouth officer injured in crash with alleged drunk driver
A Dartmouth police officer was injured after his cruiser was struck by an alleged drunk driver early Sunday morning.
According to police, Officer Manny Demelo was sitting in his Dartmouth police cruiser on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue at 1:54 a.m. when the cruiser was struck by a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by David Costa, 56, of New Bedford. Demelo was on the scene of an earlier crash on the same road.
Demelo was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Costa was arrested and faces charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation.
