Dartmouth police officer pulls woman from burning car

Jan 2, 2020

A Dartmouth police officer happened to be in the right place at the right time to pull a woman from a burning car.

According to police, officer Colby Cusson was on patrol on December 30 when he came across a car fire in the median on State Road near Applebee’s — and noticed a woman still inside the burning car.

Officer Cusson pulled the woman from the burning car and brought her a safe distance away, where he and officer Alex Grant provided medical aid.

Fire crews responded to put the fire out, and the woman was brought to St. Luke’s Hospital to be evaluated. An investigation revealed the car had left the roadway and traveled about 150 feet to where it had come to rest in the median.

According to police, the car was not insured or properly registered, so the woman was cited for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating after revocation of registration, and failure to stay within marked lanes.

An immediate threat licensee suspension/revocation request is also being filed with the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
