Dartmouth Police officer represents U.S. Army at Red Sox fundraiser

The Dartmouth Police Department's Shawn Souza was at Fenway Park on July 23 for the Red Sox's Run to Home Base event.

Souza represented the United States Army at the annual fundraiser, which helps raise money for clinical care for veterans and their families through the Home Base Program.

"We marched to second base as they announced the umpires and recognized different families," said Souza. "It was basically a military appreciation day at Fenway. They have us free seats."

Souza said he volunteered for the event, but that his 16 years with the army, 12 years in the Honor Guard, eight years as a patrolman for the Dartmouth Police, and 10 years as a Dartmouth District No. 3 firefighter made him an obvious choice anyways.

"It was a beautiful day. There was a storm everywhere else, but we only got a drizzle," said Souza about the event. "It's always a good time." Souza has also represented his various organizations at Patriots and Celtics games too.

Runners started the 8 a.m. race on Yawkey Way in Boston, and finished by crossing Fenway's home plate. Later, the Red Sox lost to the Minnesota Twins, 11-9.
