The Dartmouth Police Department will be participating in National Night Out in New Bedford, and is inviting the community to join them.

The event will be held on August 6, 5-8 p.m. at the Ashley Park, located on Rivet Street in New Bedford.

Held on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is a nationwide campaign designed to strengthen the relationship between police and fire officials and residents in order to foster partnerships and improve safety in neighborhoods.

The event is family-friendly, and is free to attend. Food and beverages will be provided while supplies last. 

Other activities include a bike raffle, face painting, arts and crafts, sports, a police versus fire department tug of war, and backpack raffles. 

In the event of a rainout, a rain date is set for August 7.
