Dartmouth Police receive overwhelming support following Dallas shooting

Following the ambush killing five Dallas police officers on July 7, police departments nationwide have received gestures of support, including Dartmouth Police.

The most recent show of gratitude comes from Janessa Morton Resendes and her son Braylon, who brought pizza to the Dartmouth Police along with this message: “Thank you for keeping me safe from the monsters and bad guys.”

“Words cannot begin to describe how appreciative the members of DPD are for the overwhelming amount of support and gratitude that we have received in light of the recent Dallas Police Department tragedy,” said Dartmouth Police Detective Kyle Costa via email.

“We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts, and assure everyone that the approach at Dartmouth P.D. has been, and always will be, that ‘If we work together, we can make a difference in this world!’” said Costa.

The department’s Facebook page is littered with thanks, following the receipt of a care package from Donald and Susan Dubreuil, cupcakes from Pink Box Desserts, food donations from Farm & Coast Market, and numerous thoughtful messages.

“For the week ending Saturday, July 9, 2016, DPD fielded 476 calls for service,” reported the Dartmouth Police Facebook page. “Due to the numerous expressions of gratitude that we received from the community, we also drank approximately 5 gallons of coffee, and ate about 20 pizzas, 3 dozen donuts and pastries, 6 chickens, a dozen cupcakes, and endless homemade baked goodies (buuuurrrrrpppp!!!!)”

The Commonwealth is also showing condolences for Dallas. Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker ordered both the United States and Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff on July 8 in honor of the fallen officers in Dallas. The flags at all government buildings throughout the state will be lowered until sunset on Tuesday, July 12.
