Dartmouth Track athletes compete at State Divisionals

With the winter track season drawing to a close, several Dartmouth track athletes have extended their seasons by qualifying and competing in the state divisional tournaments.

Between Dartmouth High and Bishop Stang, 22 individual track athletes and three relay teams competed in State Divisional Tournaments last week in their respective divisions.

Leading the way in results was Stang shot put prodigy Jacob Cookinham, who stole the show at his competition by taking first place with a throwing distance of 62 feet, 8.75 inches, nearly eight feet farther than the second place throw.

Other notable performances from Bishop Stang’s Division IV indoor track team included a second place finish for the boys 4x800m relay team (8:44.82) which included junior Andrew Caldera, junior Andrew Fortin, junior Andrew Weaver, and senior Brad Sumner.

Dartmouth High athletes also fared well at the meet, with athletes achieving 16 personal bests and two school records.

Of the Dartmouth High athletes, the best result came from the girls 4x200m relay team, which placed fourth with a time of 1:49.60, beating the school record by more than a second. The team was made up of senior Mia Carter, senior Sorelle Lawton, senior Katherine Smith, and junior Madison Stott.

Stott also placed the highest in her individual event, coming in fifth place in the 300 meter dash with a time of 43.23 seconds.

Also notable was James Marden, who finished sixth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.76 seconds, breaking the school record for the second time this month in the event.

In total, the Dartmouth High girls team came in 18th place in the Division IV tournament with 9 points, the Dartmouth boys came in 27th place with 3 points, and the Bishop Stang boys came in 7th place with 22 points. The Bishop Stang girls team did not record any points and therefore did not place in its tournament.

Other Dartmouth High girls results included: Sorelle Lawton, 28th place (300m); Grace Rose, 30th place (1000m); Serena Carnes, 20th place (1 mile); Kaitlyn daSilva, 26th place (1 mile); Amy Moura, 30th (1 mile); and Katherine Smith, 30th (1 mile).

On the Dartmouth boys team, results included: Nicholas Silva, 24th place (600m); Aidan Carreiro, 22nd place (1000m); Tyler Medeiros, 25th place (1000m); Charles Fairfax, 26th place (1000m); Braden Medeiros, 10th place (shot put); Michael Figueired, 19th place (shot put); and the 4x400m relay team of Carreiro, Fairfax, Silva, and Bronson Garriga, 17th place.

On the Bishop Stang team, only one girl qualified for the divisional tournament. Freshman Elizabeth Jones finished 25th in the 300m.

On the Stang boys team, results included: Andrew Fortin, 8th place (600m); Brad Sumner, 11th place (600m); Andrew Caldera, 7th place (1000m); Andrew Weaver, 10th place (1000m); John Campbell, 8th place (2 mile); and Rook Bergeron, 20th (shot put).
