Dorothy May Sylvia, 84
Dorothy May (DeMoranville) Sylvia, 84, of Dartmouth, passed away on March 9, 2017 at the Royal Taber in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late August Sylvia.
Born in Fairhaven, a daughter of the late Lyman and Flora (Duphily) DeMoranville, she had resided in Tiverton from 1950-1969 with her late husband George Mello, and then moved to Dartmouth in 1969. She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School.
Mrs. Sylvia was a talented stitcher who worked for George Lopes Interior Design. In younger years, she and her brother competed in dance competitions. She enjoyed sewing and reading and was a communicant of St. George Church in Westport.
Her family includes a son, George Mello Jr. of Acushnet; a daughter, Christine L. Medeiros and her husband John V. Medeiros III of Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her brothers, Edgar, Lester, and Robert W. DeMoranville.
Her funeral was held on Monday, March 13, and funeral mass at St. George the same day. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
