Edward Arruda, 95

Edward A. Arruda, age 95 of Dartmouth/New Bedford passed away peacefully on Friday, April 5, 2019 in Royal Taber Street Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Bedford with his family at his side.

He was the loving husband of Eva (Fernandes) Arruda, to whom he had been married for 46 years.

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Manuel and Maria P. (Santos) Arruda, he resided in both Dartmouth and New Bedford.

Ed served in the United States Army Signal Corps during WWII, serving in the Philippines.

He was employed at Braley’s Creamery as a pasteurizer and later by the former US Furniture and later Stan and Paul’s as a salesman.

Ed loved his family, gardening, and his fruit trees; he also enjoyed golf and bowling.

He loved to travel with his beloved Eva, especially their trips to Madeira and the Azores.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steven Arruda and his wife Etsuko of California and David Arruda and his wife Janet of Dartmouth; a stepdaughter, Karen Walega of Acushnet; a stepson, Richard Walega and his wife Carolyn of Florida; two grandchildren, Leah and Rachel, two step-grandchildren, Kathleen and Richard; and three step-great- grandchildren, Tabitha, Maxwell and Holland.

His funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, South Dartmouth. Relatives and friends are invited.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
