The Russells Mills Engine Company was back at it again trading in their fire hoses for something a little less powerful as they turned from fighting fires to extinguishing grime off of cars in the name of raising money for charity.

Cars were looking ‘Sparky’ clean Sunday afternoon, June 30, and Sparky the mascot wasn’t the only pup there supporting the car wash. Recruits Timber the Dalmatian and Asher, an Australian Shepherd and Boxer mix, were joined by Timber the Catahoula, owned by Carolyn Abrantes, secretary of the Russells Mills Engine Company.

Firefighters, recruits, juniors and staff all took part in the car wash on Sunday, which is one of many ways the company raises money that is then donated to burn centers, needy families and food and toy drives as well as given out through scholarships.

Abrantes said this was the company’s second and final car wash of the year as they get ready for their annual clambake — the date for which has not yet been announced.

“It’s been a bit low key today, but I think the weather has affected that because we are right in between the thunderstorms,” Abrantes said, adding how lucky they were to still be able to put it on.
