Fire Chief Arruda appointed to state board by Gov. Baker
Dartmouth Fire District 3 Chief Richard K. Arruda has been appointed to the state Board of Fire Prevention Regulations (BFPR) by Governor Charlie Baker on June 24, 2015.
Arruda will represent fire departments in communities with a population of less than 25,000. The 16-member board is responsible for promulgating the Comprehensive Fire Safety Code (527 CMR) for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The board was created in the wake of the 1942 Cocoanut Grove nightclub fire where 492 people died with the goal of establishing a uniform, statewide fire safety code.
Fire Chief Arruda was recommended for the appointment by the Fire Chiefs’ Association of Massachusetts.
“I was honored to receive the recommendation for this appointment from my fellow fire chiefs," said Arruda. “It is a further honor to be appointed to this important board by the Governor.”
Chief Arruda has been a member of the fire service since 1987 and the fire chief of Dartmouth Fire District 3 since 1995. He is past member of the Fire Prevention, Fire Protection Advisory Committee which provides technical assistance on matters specific to fire safety advances in building design and construction techniques to the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS).
“I am proud to work with the other members of this board to keep our fire code current and to protect the people of Massachusetts from fire.”
