Fire District No. 1 captain recognized by the New England Revolution

Aug 16, 2018

Captain Peter Andrade of Dartmouth Fire District No. 1 was the “Hero of the Match” at the New England Revolution’s August 11 game against the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium.

The team recognized and celebrated him for his part in saving a man’s life on March 2. Andrade was driving through a nor’easter to his mother’s house in New Bedford when he saw a car submerged in Clarks Cove. He quickly put out a call over his radio to the New Bedford Police and Fire Departments, along with his own department.

He saw that the car’s wipers were on, and was preparing to enter the water when New Bedford Police Captain Dennis Ledo arrived, and the two entered together. Andrade pulled a 24 year old man from the water by the car and brought him to the shore, and waiting emergency crews, with Ledo’s help.

“Somebody’s son or daughter was in that car,” Andrade said at the time of his quick response. “I didn’t really think about it.”

Capt. Andrade was recognized in a pregame ceremony and watched the game from the Putnam Club.

During the 2018 season, the New England Revolution is honoring a local first responder, member of the armed forces, or other person making a difference at each home game.
