Fire District No. 3 accepting call firefighter applications

Aug 13, 2019

Interested in becoming a firefighter? Dartmouth Fire District No. 3 is now accepting applications for call firefighter positions.

In order to qualify, applicants must be at least 18 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, and within District No. 3’s coverage area or close proximity to it.

Fire District No. 3 serves the northern portion of town, from the town’s northern borders to Allen Street south of Route 6.

The deadline to submit an application is September 14. Applications can be picked up in person at the department’s 140 Cross Road headquarters building.

Those chosen as part of the application process will need to attend a fire academy program. The fire academy requires a commitment of two nights a week and Saturdays. The academy starts in late February to early March and ends in late June.

The academy consists of classroom time, work with ladders, self-contained breathing apparatus, interior fire attack, vehicle extraction, first responder training, and other skills.

Those who complete the program and maintain an average of 70 percent or greater can become Firefighter I and II certified.
