Fire District No. 3 responds to Old Fall River Rd. fire

Dec 15, 2018

An idling motorcycle triggered a garage fire at an Old Fall River Rd. home on Dec. 15.

Fire crews responded to the call at 1346 Old Fall River Road, located near the Westport line, at about 3:25 p.m. When firefighters arrived, crews had to break down a garage door and discovered a motorcycle had burst into flames inside the garage.

“I saw the garage on fire and all of a sudden the garage door slammed shut,” said a neighbor.

Fire crews had the fire knocked down quickly, according to Chief Richard Arruda. The fire was determined to be a fuel fire which started in a motorcycle that had been left running.

“Inside [the garage] there was a motorcycle that was on fire,” Arruda said. “That was where the fire started.”

No one was inside the house at the time, although one resident was at home, and no one was injured.

The fire was contained to the garage, but firefighters had to ventilate the smoke from the home, which did sustain smoke damage. The garage was significantly damaged by the fire.

A section of Old Fall River Road was temporarily closed.
