First home game brings enthusiastic fans, tough loss

Sep 14, 2018

The weather was cool, if not crisp, on September 14 for Dartmouth High School’s first home game of the football season against Attleboro.

Cars packed the middle school parking lot and lined Slocum Rd. as fans filled the stadium and middle and high schoolers walked laps around the field with friends.

Dartmouth, cheered on by a packed stadium, initially led the game, ending the first half ahead 7-0. But the third quarter was tough, and Dartmouth ended up losing 21 to 7.

Fans’ enthusiasm was unabated, however, and the student section of the bleachers was packed with screaming fans clad in red, white, and blue.

“Every game we have a theme,” explained Matt Dias, who composed his outfit out of clothes he already owned.

Asked if she was excited for the season, Julia Kehoe said, “Oh yeah! Are you kidding me? We’re Dartmouth fans over here!”

Throughout the game, fans cheered on the team, shouting, “Go big green!”

The next home game for the football team will be on Friday, September 21 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
