Gil Ferreira Aguiar, 85
Gil Ferreira Aguiar, 85, of Dartmouth, passed away on January 4 at New Bedford Rehabilitation Hospital following a long illness. He was the loving husband of Lubelia M. (Ferreira) Aguiar.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal on January 16, 1931, a son of the late Joao Inacio Aguiar and Violante da Mota Aguiar, he came to the United States in 1968, lived in New Bedford and settled in Dartmouth.
He had worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing until his retirement. While in Portugal, he worked in the Italian Consulate office. Gil was a devoted hard working man who enjoyed the company of his loving family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Cecilia Oliveira and husband Jose of Dartmouth, Emanuel "Manny" Aguiar and wife Lisa Cervantes Aguiar of New Bedford, Ana Aguiar of Watertown and Patricia Aguiar Stricker and wife Leigh of Medford; a sister, Gilda Teves; two brothers, Joao Aguiar and wife Olinda and Luis Aguiar and wife Fatima; a sister-in-law Grace and Antonio Silveira; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Roy J. Aguiar and brother of the late Manuel Aguiar and Maria Pacheco.
Visiting hours and a funeral service was held on January 7. Burial followed in Rural Cemetery.
