After wrapping up their regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 with a win against North Attleborough High School, the Dartmouth girls soccer team prepared to head into states.

“We’ll find out who we’re going to play in the states and then we figure out a plan of what we’re going to do,” said Head Coach Scot Boudrin after the game.

The team played their preliminary game against Melrose High School on Sunday, Nov. 3 which ended in a loss and the team’s elimination from the state competition.

“There’s a lot of pressure,” said Head Coach Scot Boudrin. “I always tell them it’s soccer. It’s another game. If you lose, you’re done, but it’s still just another game.”

Several athletes graduated last year, and despite their years of experience, at least five or six players found themselves playing positions that they weren’t playing before, said senior Gabriella Montez.

“I think we started this year not knowing where everyone [was] going to fit,” Montez said. “We basically built the whole team from scratch.”

The team went into the preliminary game with 12 seniors who have been playing with each other since freshman year or even earlier.

“A lot of us grew up playing soccer together since we were 4 or 5 years old,” said senior Remy Barber. 

When the now seniors played together on the freshman year team they went undefeated, winning all 15 of their games.

After their freshman year, the freshman team split up, some going to the varsity team and others the junior varsity team.

Senior Ava-Michelle Fraga said that she found it interesting that they all started at different spots but were back together for their final season.

“I think it’s awesome that we all got to learn so much about the sport and grow together,” Fraga said. “Now that we’re all seniors, we can finally all be here together and just give it our best shot.”

As seniors this year, the girls were all back together to play one last season together and, for many of the girls, for their last time playing soccer.

“It feels like it’s a full circle moment,” Barber said. “To finally finish our last season together, it’s kind of bittersweet.”
