Gloria ‘Glo’ B. (Hollis) Strain

Gloria ‘Glo’ B. (Hollis) Strain, of South Dartmouth passed away Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Sippican Healthcare Center, Marion, Massachusetts. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late James Hollis and Augusta Hollis Goodwin. She lived in Dartmouth most of her life and was a member of the Congregational Church of South Dartmouth. Gloria was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Edward “Ted” Strain, a son, Richard and her brothers, James Hollis and Bradford Hollis.

She attended Walnut Hill School in Wellesley and the Chamberlain School of Retailing.

Glo was an active person, loved the outdoors, especially summertime, was an avid walker and bike rider, working out at Healthtrax and yoga. In the summers she enjoyed swimming at Anthony’s Beach or Barney’s Joy at high tide. She also enjoyed stitching exquisite needlepoint and was previously a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild and was recently most active with and a past Board member of the Cape Cod Chapter of the American Needlepoint Guild.

Gloria was well-loved and leaves three children, Whitney Strain, and his wife, Debbie, of Inlet Beach, Florida; two daughters, Allyson Strain, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, and Pam Gray, and her husband, Jon, of Madison, Indiana; and a grandson, Logan Strain, of Inlet Beach, Florida. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Goodwin, and his wife, Lisa, of Hyannis and a sister, Anne Wagner, and her husband, Ken, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; and a niece, June Hollis, and her wife, Gracie O’Connor, of Westport, Massachusetts; and many wonderful friends.

A celebration of Glo’s life will be planned for a later date.
